Hybrid Bermuda Putting Greens vs. Classic Bent Grass Putting Greens. National Greens Synthetic Putting Greens, a better alternative.

A recent battle royal has ensued between two breeds of grass in the world of golf and other sports  as well. National Greens synthetic grass wants to illuminate the reasons for this battle and suggest a better alternate to private and public golf courses everywhere. The battle is between a long time golfing classic and a new genetically modified super grass. Ding Ding.

Classic Bent Grass putting greens are considered the best putting greens because of their ability to be cut to extremely low heights, and their ability to be grown from seed. Bent grass does not have grain, which makes it superior as a putting surface; however, bent grass often gets infested with poa annua, which is a costly and time consuming weed. It also is easily damaged by water and foot traffic. Metal spikes have been banned from most public and private golf courses for this very reason. It is delicate and extremely expensive to maintain. The cost and intense maintenance that is required of bent grass greens has pushed private and public golf courses around the world to switch to a claimed tougher and less expensive alternative for their putting surfaces. The genetically modified replacement grass is called  “Modified” or Hybrid Bermuda grass, Tifgreen (328) to be exact. A very dense, fine textured breed of Bermuda grass.

However, the downside to “Modified” or Hybrid Bermuda putting greens is the “actual” cost of maintenance. The hybrids require much more intensive maintenance than first thought required for best appearance. Frequent fertilization and close mowing, edging, and dethatching are needed to keep them relatively attractive even more so is required to keep them playable. Hybrid Bermuda also produces no viable seed and must be planted by vegetative means (sprigs, sod) when damage occurs every season. The most damning characteristic off the new “super” grass is its affect to the game of golf itself. Hybrid Bermuda has a distinct “grain” (the growth direction of the blades of grass affects the ball’s roll and is called the grain of the green). This means chips taken from different sides of the green will react and roll in a completely different manner and stimp speed. The slopes or breaks of the putting green also severely affect the roll and stimp speed of the ball. This makes it impossible for a player to accurately judge shots approaching the green. This is very bad considering this area of the course where the most strokes can be lost or gained in a game of golf. Players can expect a significant rise in their strokes when playing these courses, and leave the course frustrated not knowing why their shots would not play as desired on the greens.
National Greens synthetic grass putting greens has provided a superior battle plan to win the war on putting green surfaces. Simply remove the waring parties by introducing a far superior solution that plagues both breeds of natural grass. National Greens professionally installed putting green surfaces emulate the play and stimp speed of a classic PGA Bent Grass putting green perfectly with the ability to easily tune its surface at any time. The synthetic putting surface requires little to no maintenance to continue to play at perfectly consistent stimp speeds. All that is required of synthetic putting greens is to occasionally blow leafs off the surface and tune the playing speed with sand. On average professional synthetic putting greens should be tuned once to twice a season at a heavily trafficked golf course. National Greens synthetic grass putting greens are 100% resistant to all weather. No more weeds or dead spots. Spikes wont damage its surface either. A game can be played immediately after a heavy rain with no affect to the ball play or damage to the surface.  National Greens synthetic grass also won’t fade from the suns UV rays as old turf products would. We are one of the only synthetic grass companies in the world to offer a fade guarantee on any synthetic grass we install. We are that confident in our product and turf supplier. Private and public golf courses alike using synthetic grass putting greens spend considerable less revenue annually on maintenance, watering cost, seeding, fuel,  pesticides, fertilizers, specialized machinery, and damage repair. The combined savings from switching to artificial grass putting greens pays for the installations extremely fast. The cost effectiveness and durability of synthetic grass equates to lower overhead cost and better course play, leading to more players and less weather down time, dramatically raising your profit margin. Synthetic grass putting greens have saved many golf courses on the brink of financial ruin due to the recent downfall in the economy and leisure activity spending.
